Four Game of Thrones hackers got arrested in India yesterday for allegedly leaking Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 4 ‘The Spoils of War’ two days ahead of its scheduled release. The leaked episode was first seen on Reddit in the wee hours of August 4. It was subsequently posted on Torrent and other streaming websites.

Three of the accused hackers are current employees of Prime Focus Technology, while one is a former employee. Prime Focus is a Mumbai-based company that stores and processes the series for Indian streaming website Hotstar which is further owned by Star India. After receiving a complaint from Hotstar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Akbar Pathan told AFP news agency that, we investigated the case and have arrested four individuals for unauthorized publication of the fourth episode from season seven. The four have been charged with criminal breach of trust and computer related offenses and will be detained until 21 August“.

Please note that these hackers aren’t the ones who stole 1.5 TB of data from HBO. These other hackers have allegedly stolen episodes of Ballers, Room 104 and scripts of Game of Thrones episodes. On Monday they leaked some of the unaired material other than Game of Thrones. It has also been reported that HBO is negotiating with the hackers as they have threatened to release whatever they have if HBO doesn’t pay them a ransom.
Let’s see if the hackers who stole 1.5 TB of data get arrested ever and how HBO prevents further leaks from happening. HBO has been subject to leaks in the past. Game of Thrones has a big fan base and these spoilers have made hard core fans very upset.
