A song of ice and fire

The Fifth Game of Thrones Prequel May Be The Most Exciting One

I recently wrote about five Game of Thrones prequels that were confirmed by George RR Martin in his live journal back in May. HBO earlier had only confirmed four but now they have confirmed a fifth Game of Thrones prequel one to be written by Bryan Cogman. The fifth prequel may be the most exciting one as Bryan Cogman understands the soul of Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire.

Bryan Cogman Will Be Writing The Fifth Game of Thrones Prequel

The Fifth Game of Thrones Prequel May The Most Exciting One

Bryan Cogman contributes one episode per season, which makes Bryan Cogman the only writer to have contributed to all eight seasons of Game of Thrones. A Cogman episode is always marked by callbacks both to previous seasons and to deeper lore from Martin’s novels. In George RR Martin’s own words about Cogman, “He’s a really terrific addition. A great guy and a fine writer, and aside from me and maybe Elio and Linda, I don’t know anyone who knows and loves Westeros as well as he does.”

At that time Martin didn’t reveal the identity of Cogman as the writer of the fifth prequel (or successor series as George Martin likes to call them) as HBO hadn’t officially confirmed the news. But everything hasn’t always been rosy for Cogman. He wrote a very controversial episode of Game of Thrones Season 5, “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken,” which featured Sansa’s wedding night with Ramsay. But Cogman was very open to addressing questions and criticism about why he wrote a scene like that.

Cogman engaged in a dialogue over what many considered to be a misstep. The decision to put Sansa in such a position—one she doesn’t endure in the books—surely wasn’t his alone. But Cogman shouldered a lot of the blame in both one-on-one discussions with fans on social media and in an emotional commentary track, which is available on the Season 5 DVD/Blu-ray.

In fact, Weiss and Benioff have been reluctant at times to engage directly with the fandom and Cogman has often served as a direct line of communication. This year, he apologized to fans on Twitter for not including a scene between the direwolf Ghost and Jon. “I tried!” he said, acknowledging the desires of the fans to see more of Ghost and Jon together.

Bryan Cogman may be the best hope HBO has at ensuring a new series that will be both faithful to the spirit of Martin’s original text and consistent with the work that D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have done for the past seven or so years. He may indeed write the most exciting Game of Thrones prequel.

Five Game of Thrones Spin-Offs In Development – All We Know So Far

Five Game of Thrones Spin-Offs

Five Game of Thrones Spin-Offs. What Do We Know?

There are five Game of Thrones spin-offs (George RR Martin likes to call them successor series) currently in development for HBO. Some of them are reportedly being set in Westeros, home to the Iron Throne. It seems various writers, including GRRM pitched their ideas and this is what we know as of now.

What Do We Know About These Five Game of Thrones Spin-Offs?

Back in May, Martin confirmed this news on his blog. Says Martin, “Every one of the concepts under discussion is a prequel, rather than a sequel”. Westeros may not even be a part of them. Other highlights include:

  • None of the five new shows will center on any current Game of Thrones character. The new shows will introduce entirely new characters from the Known World.
  • Martin is going to play a role in the creation of all five series, and one of them he pitched himself.
  • The five new shows are currently in development and we know the writers behind four of them: Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island), Jane Goldman (X-Men: First Class), Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential), and Carly Wray (Mad Men)
  • The fifth writer is still a mystery.
  • None of the series will be about Robert’s Rebellion or adventures of Hot Pie (sadly). None of these spin-offs will be about Dunk and Egg.

What Have Other Writers Revealed So Far?

Aside from Martin’s blog post, we don’t know much about these five Game of Thrones spin-offs. One of the writers, Jane Goldman, recently told IGN that Thrones fans should recognize the material she’s adapting for her show:

“Yeah, I think I can say if I was able to say what mine was — yeah, I think as a book reader or as someone who watched the series, you would say, ‘Oh, that! OK.’ Yeah, it would be recognizable as a past event, but I think that’s probably as far as I can go.”

What can that be? The life of Bran the Builder? The Doom of Valyria perhaps? Or About the Children of the Forest and First Men?

One piece of good news is that Game of Thrones has teased a prequel on Game of Thrones animated history series and the clip features a part of the Targaryen conquest of Westeros. It will be made available with the release of Game of Thrones Season 7 DVD and Blu-Ray for limited edition starting Dec 12, 2017.

Game of Thrones Solved The Mystery Behind The Marriage Of Lyanna Stark

This Sunday’s episode of Game of Thrones scored major points. There wasn’t any war scene or much violence but there were some important revelations. It looks like Game of Thrones gave a big clue to the viewers about the relationship of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. Looks like that Jon Snow is after all the rightful heir to the Iron Throne.

Mystery solved about Marriage of Lyanna Stark To Rhaegar Targaryen

Samwell Tarly is frustrated from his conversation with the Maesters in a scene earlier in the show. The Maesters are discussing the raven sent by Brandon Stark about Army of the Dead approaching the Wall. But Archmaester tries to dismiss the raven by calling it a ploy by Daenerys to drive armies of the Southerners to the north so that she could conquer Westeros. Archmaester also considers the slight possibility of the raven being true but says that is very unlikely that there is any army of the dead. Sam gets very frustrated about Archmaester not believing him when he says that he has seen the White Walkers. Sam ultimately gets dismissed by the Archmaester.

Samwell Tarly Trying To Convince The Archmaester About The Threat From White Walkers Advancing Towards The Wall

Sam is seen next in the episode with Gilly.

Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark

Sam and Gilly in Eastwatch

Gilly is reading some factoids from some High Septon Maynard. She asks Sam, “what does an annulment mean?“. Sam replies, “It’s when a man sets aside his lawful wife“. Gilly keeps on reading,  “Maynard issued an annulment for a Prince named Rhaegar and remarried him to someone else at the same time in a secret ceremony in Dorne“. That’s it, folks! There you have it. So Prince Rhaegar is Rhaegar Targaryen. Maynard issued an annulment for the marriage of Rhaegar Targaryen and Elia Martell. Also, remember the Tower of Joy where Ned Stark found Lyanna Stark. That Tower of Joy is in Dorne. For all this time everyone thinks in Westeros that Lyanna Stark was killed by Rhaegar Targaryen and his army. But now it has become quite clear that Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark got married in Dorne by High Septon Maynard.

v

Samwell Tarly Misses Some Very Important Information

Sam Tarly completely missed what Gilly told him and instead starts his own rant about all the mundane tasks he has been assigned at Citadel and tells Gilly that he has had enough of it. Oh dear Samwell, you just missed something so important that could make your very dear friend Jon Snow a rightful heir to the Iron Throne. Not only that, this information is critical to the fact that Jon Snow can also ride a dragon. We need more dragon riders. You just listen to your lady, Sam. Listen to what your woman just told you. Pay attention!!!!

Jon Snow Has A Rightful Claim To The Iron Throne

Jon Snow has heard insults throughout his life of being the bastard son of Ned Stark. Despite that, he has risen to a higher purpose, to fight for his people, and most importantly, to fight for the living. Now when he finds out that he is not a bastard but a legitimate child of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark what is he gonna do? Get into the war of Game of Thrones or continue his mission to fight for the living. My guess is the latter.

Jon Snow once told Sansa that he doesn’t enjoy being the King of the North. He never wanted it but his people chose him. Imagine what would people ask him to do if they come to know that he is true ice and fire. He has both Stark and Targaryen blood running through his veins. He is actually the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, much more so than Daenerys Targaryen. Rhaegar Targaryen was the heir after Aerys Targaryen and going by idiotic patriarchal norms of the society, he has a more legitimate shot at the Iron Throne as compared to Daenerys.

How His Lineage Can Help Jon Snow In Fighting The Army Of The Dead

The song of ice and fire is ultimately not about fighting for the Iron Throne. It’s about the fight between living and dead. It’s about the prince or princess that was promised. Jon Snow has already risen to that occasion. He is off again to the far north with his squad to take a wight back to the South to make the likes of Cersei Lannister believe that White Walkers are real. That the Army of the Dead is real.

Lyanna Stark

The Squad – Jon Snow, Jorah Mormont, Tormund, Beric Dondarrion, Thoros, Gendry, and The Hound

His lineage is going to play another important role. Once he comes to know that he has Targaryen blood, that will cement his confidence that he can ride a dragon. He already bonded with Drogon in Eastwatch. Dragons will play a role in the fight of the Long Night.

Lyanna Stark

Jon Snow Bonding With Drogon

This bond and the knowledge of Jon Snow being a legitimate child of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen will be crucial for him to ultimately defeat the Night King. Let’s see if we get to see the marriage of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen as a flashback in the upcoming episodes of Game of Thrones

Tyrion Lannister in Eastwatch

Tyrion seems to be so torn between his love and worry for Jaime and the Lannisters and his pledge to serve Daenerys. He is definitely feeling some heat. He is also not happy about how Daenerys is treating him. Daenerys also warned Varys a few weeks ago about facing grave consequences if he ever betrays her. I think that someone is betraying her and Varys here is possibly trying to influence Tyrion against Daenerys.

Hackers Leak More Game of Thrones Data

Yesterday evening,  the hackers who grabbed almost 1.5 TB of data, released more files online and demanded ransom from HBO.

Last week, HBO hackers claimed to have secure 1.5 terabytes of data from the premium cable network’s servers. Most critically, the hackers claimed to hold 3.4 GB of proprietary data, including draft scripts of future Game of Thrones episodes, as well as phone numbers and email addresses for stars Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, and Emilia Clarke.

The big news today: Hackers Leak Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 5 Online

In an email sent to several sites, a spokesperson for the team of hackers, calling himself “Mr. Smith” wrote, “this is the second wave. enjoy it…..”

The second wave consists of 10 files, including what may be the script of Episode 5 of Game of Thrones and what appears to be the text of their ransom demand to HBO’s Chairman and CEO, Richard Plepler. This site has the image of all the files that were sent by hackers to several sites.

Hackers release more files hacked from HBO, including the script of Episode 5 of Game of Thrones, legal documents, contact information of Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke, and Lena Headey, and a ransom note.

The note to the Chairman and CEO of HBO, Richard Plepler, from a website, reads,

Jon Snow Is Smitten By Daenerys: Game of Thrones

Jon Snow is smitten by Daenerys Targaryen. It became quite clear after watching Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 4 tonight.

Why Jon Snow Is Smitten By Daenerys?

Jon Snow is smitten by Daenerys

Daenerys Looks at Jon Snow Passionately

Jon Snow and Daenerys are clearly attracted to each other. And so much of it is not from the dialogue. Both of them are in a small space, standing near each other, and we can feel the heat between them. A raw emotion is there when they look at each other in the cave. Jon Snow shows the paintings of the First Men and Children of the Forest and Daenerys realizes that what Jon Snow is saying is true.

Jon Snow is smitten by Daenerys

I think Daenerys relates to Jon Snow in terms of all the odds he has faced and she has had similar experiences. She is intrigued when Ser Davos says in the episode, ‘The Queen’s Justice’, “Jon Snow took a knife in his heart for his people“. Both Jon Snow and Daenerys have quite a bit in common. Both are fighting their own fights. One is political where Jon Snow has his own very specific purpose on Dragonstone, and that’s to get Dragonglass. Another, if possible, is to convince Dany to fight with him. And Dany has her very own specific purpose, which is to get Jon to bend the knee. There’s a conflict and it’s a conflict between two very powerful people.

Later on, Jon Snow circumvents Ser Davos’s question about Jon being attracted to Daenerys. He says that there is no time for that. They have a bigger problem at hand which is the Army of the Dead that is advancing towards them by every minute.

Where Would The Story Line of Jon Snow and Daenerys Go?

Will Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen get involved romantically? Remember that both of them don’t know about the truth behind Jon’s parentage. Let’s see what happens in next episode of Game of Thrones. To watch the preview of the next episode visit here.

Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 4 had many top moments and this was one of them. Let me know what you think.

A Song of Ice and Fire

Melisandre says to Varys in the Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3, “I’ve brought ice and fire together”. A lot of people must have gotten goosebumps as the book by George R.R. Martin is called ‘A Song of Ice and Fire‘. That is the very gist of Game of Thrones.

A Song of Ice and Fire – Jon Snow Meets Daenerys Targaryen

I've Brought Ice and Fire Together: Game of Thrones

I’ve Brought Ice and Fire Together: Game of Thrones

Jon Snow arrives at Dragonstone and finally meets Daenerys Targaryen which is the spine of Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3. Daenerys expects Jon Snow to bend his knee to the rightful Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. But Jon Snow doesn’t think that Daenerys is worthy of that much respect. He doesn’t know Daenerys’s journey so far. Daenerys doesn’t know Jon either so there are a lot of expectations on the either side that are not being met.

Jon worries about the Night King and The Army of the Dead that is marching upon the living. He hopes that Daenerys will let him mine dragonglass at Dragonstone. Daenerys has not seen the Army of the Dead or the White Walkers or the Night King. So whatever Jon Snow tells her is hard for her to believe. Jon explains to Daenerys that she will rule upon the dead if she doesn’t help him in defeating Army of the Dead. If we all die that the fight against Cersei will be useless.

Ser Davos Seaworth explains to both Tyrion Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen about who Jon is, what he is capable of and what he has done for his people.

A Song of Ice and Fire: Game of Thrones

A Song of Ice and Fire: Ser Davos explains to Daenerys about what Jon has sacrificed and done for his people

Daenerys also assertively tells Jon and Ser Davos about what she has endured. She says she has been raped, sold, tortured but the thing that has kept her going is her faith in Daenerys Targaryen. She says, “I was born to rule the Seven Kingdoms and I will”.

A Song of Ice and Fire: Game of Thrones

A Song of Ice and Fire: Why Daenerys Deserves To Rule The Seven Kingdoms

Later on, Daenerys agrees to Jon Snow mining the dragonglass without having Jon to bend his knee to her. She shows good faith towards Jon upon the wise counsel of Tyrion Lannister. In the coming episodes, we will see how the song of ice and fire plays out.

To know more about the coming episode check out this post.

Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3 Top Moments

There were some key moments that can be called as Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3 top moments. I couldn’t take my eyes off from my TV for even a single second. It was simply fantastic.

Meeting of Ice & Fire – Jon Snow Meets Daenerys Stormborn – The Most Awaited Moment on Game of Thrones

According to David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the spine of the episode is about the first meeting of Ice and Fire – Jon Snow and Daenerys Stormborn.

Jon Snow doesn’t have much idea about what Daenerys has gone through. Jon refuses to bend his knee to the Mother of Dragons as he probably he sees a rich girl with a fancy name sitting in a big chair with a fancy dress on proclaiming herself as the queen of the world. He doesn’t have much respect for her perhaps at this moment. He didn’t come to Dragonstone to join her in her fight against Cersei. None of that matters for him at this point. All that matters is fighting the dead.

According to Weiss, she looks at him and she thinks that he is some unwashed barbarian from the north, and he is a bastard and yet he’s calling himself king. If she perhaps knew what he’d seen she’d be looking very very differently at what he’s telling her. But at this point in time, she only sees Jon as someone who’s trying to carve up her piece of her kingdom for himself. And Dany is thinking that if what this guy is saying is true, then it really is an issue.  But Dany has her own very serious issues to deal with in the shape of the woman who’s now sitting on the throne. Cersei is a murderous vicious woman, capable of insane amounts of brutality without a second thought if she feels like it’s what needs to be done.

After Tyrion’s advice, Dany agrees to have Jon mine the dragonglass. That is the first step from her side to make Jon an ally and to show good faith.

The Battle of Casterly Rock – One of Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3 Top Moments

According to David Benioff and Weiss, everyone realizes the two pulls of power for Cersei and Jaime at this point are Kings Landing and Casterly Rock. But Jaime also knows that he doesn’t have the forces to defend both. So he makes the strategic decision to give up Casterly Rock, to use it as a decoy, to lure the Unsullied over there to take it and to get them on the exact wrong side of the continent. The siege of Casterly Rock is so much about what doesn’t happen, how it goes contrary to expectations, so in order for us to understand that it doesn’t play out the way Tyrion expects it to, you really need to hear Tyrion’s expectations.

Jaime goes after the Highgarden, which is for him much more valuable because of Highgarden’s Tyrell’s stronghold, which commands almost all the fertile regions of Westeros. They are the wealthiest house but fighting isn’t really their forte.

Death Scene of Olenna Tyrell – One of Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3 Top Moments

Jaime thinks that he finally got to turn the tables on someone. But Olena still wins the scene. The one thing that she does have left to live for is the thing she saves for the very end of the scene. The piece of information that she’s been sitting on since season four. She beats him in the middle of her own death scene, and there’s nothing he can do about it. He knows that its true the moment she says it, “Tell Cersei I wanted to her to know that it was me”. She admits to Jaime that he killed his and Cersei’s son, King Joffrey, on his wedding day with Margaery Tyrell.

Brandon Stark Comes Back to Winterfell And Unites With Sansa Stark

Brandon Stark is finally at his home in Winterfell. But at this point, he is more worried about fighting the Night King. He wants to tell Jon Snow about the truth behind him being half Targaryen and half Stark. This is really important because it’s highly likely that Jon Snow will be riding one of the dragons, possibly Rhaegal in season 8 in the battle against the army of the dead.

Jorah Mormont’s Greyscale Gets Cured – Another One of The Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3 Top Moments

Jorah’s greyscale is cured at the moment by Samwell Tarly and he is off to fight alongside Daenerys. This is a defining moment as Samwell Tarly has discovered a way to provide treatment for greyscale to patients who are not young and whose disease is advanced. Archmaester Marwyn is pleased with Sam and has tasked Sam with organizing manuscripts which will ultimately become the book called ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’.
