Loot Train Battle vs Battle of Bastards: Game of Thrones

Last season, we saw Ramsay Bolton and Jon Snow on the opposite ends in Battle of Bastards. It was an epic moment in the history of Game of Thrones. And just yesterday, we saw another epic battle, The Loot Train Battle, which GOT team is calling as the most epic battle in the memory of Game of Thrones. Let’s quickly examine Loot Train Battle vs Battle of Bastards.

Jon Snow and Ramsay Bolton – Battle of Bastards

It was easy for viewers to pick a side in the Battle of Bastards. There was Ramsay Bolton, an evil, sadistic guy, and a psychopath on one side and righteous Jon Snow, the liberator of the free folk and Commander of The Nights Watch on the other side. It wasn’t hard for the writers to put an end to Ramsay’s evilness and make Jon a winner in that battle.

But it wasn’t easy for writers to decide upon the absolute winner for the Loot Train Battle. This is the first time where they had two sets of main characters, Jaime Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen, on the opposite sides of battlefield. And it’s impossible to really want for any of them to win, and impossible to want any of them to lose.

Jamie Charging Towards Daenerys to Kill Her

Jaime’s charge at Daenerys is a hard thing in that sequence because when you have a principal character trying to murder another principle character, that doesn’t happen all that often. Jaime Lannister has his flaws but throughout the series, he has been shown as a man of principles. His principles led him to kill the Mad King and also save Brienne of Tarth from getting raped by the bannermen of Starks.  However, in the Battle of Bastards, our hero was a clear choice and that is Jon Snow.

In both battles, we had entities which we won’t ever see in real life which made both battles magical. In the Battle of Bastards, we had Giants and Wildlings and in the Loot Train Battle, we had a dragon and Dothraki slaying Lannisters by standing on their horses.

The Conflict of Siblings: Loot Train Battle vs Battle of Bastards

In both the battles, we see a tension between siblings. In Battle of Bastards, there is some internal conflict between Jon Snow and Sansa Stark. Sansa, after having gone through hell with Ramsay Bolton, feels left out in the strategy sessions with Jon and his team. She doesn’t trust Jon Snow and asks help from Littlefinger. She asks Littlefinger to pledge to House Stark which ultimately saves Jon’s skin in that battle.

In the Loot Train Battle, Jaime Lannister and Tyrion Lannister are the two siblings fighting for the opposite sides. Tyrion didn’t anticipate what it would feel like to see Jaime Lannister so close to death in Loot Train Battle. He loves Jaime. Jaime was the one who set him free when he was sentenced to death for allegedly poisoning Joffrey Baratheon to death. On the other hand, he has pledged loyalty to Daenerys. So at that point watching Jaime charged with a spear to kill Daenerys is horrifying to him.
