Game of Thrones Season 8 Budget Is Gonna Be Huge

Long Night is Coming Game of Thrones Season 8 budget

Game of Thrones Season 8 Budget

Good news for Game of Thrones fans. Game of Thrones Season 8 budget is being discussed and according to a new report, the final six episodes will cost a whopping $15 million per episode. But wait, that’s not it. According to the buzz, the actual budget may be even bigger for each episode of Game of Thrones Season 8.

We saw amazing battle scenes in the Spoils of War and Beyond the Wall. Not to forget Jon Snow’s bonding scene with Drogon. All of these take special effects which are astronomically expensive. There were more dragon shots than ever seen before in Game of Thrones Season 6 so we can expect much more in the next season.

The final six episodes of Thrones will all reportedly be feature-length. The longest episode of the series to date, the Season 7 finale, clocked in at just shy of 80 minutes. The last season will feature more battle scenes than the last season so it’s only fair that David Benioff and D. B. Weiss demand more money per episode from HBO.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Directors Finalized

We now know that Miguel Sapochnik (of the Battle of Bastards and Hardhome fame) will be making a comeback for directing some episodes of Season 8. Miguel is not shy of putting special effects in the episodes (Talk about Giants in Hardhome and Battle of Bastards). He will have many resources at his disposal given the $15 million budget for each episode. Weiss and Benioff are going to direct the Game of Thrones finale so we may get lucky to see Nymeria and Ghost as well in the finale.

We may also see the deadly dragon battle, Drogon vs. undead Viserion in the next season. This was confirmed by Game of Thrones Sound Designer Paula Fairfield in an interview with Vanity Fair. Game of Thrones Season 8 budget may give us shots of the direwolves, dragon shots and undead giants shots. Can’t wait for Season 8 to begin.

Samwell Tarly: Most Likely To Find A Way To Defeat The Night King

Samwell Tarly is an unsung hero of Game of Thrones. When he came to the Night’s Watch as a recruit everyone thought that he is no good. But his intellect has carried him on in Game of Thrones. Judging by what he has been able to do so far there is a huge possibility that he will find a way to defeat the Night King.

Why Samwell Tarly Could Be The Person To Find A Way to Defeat the Night King

Samwell Tarly was recently at Citadel. His main purpose of going there was to study and find a way to defeat The Night King and his army of the dead. Sam has a track record of discovering things through his knowledge and love for books.

Way To Defeat The Night King

Samwell Tarly Trying To Convince The Archmaester About The Threat From White Walkers Advancing Towards The Wall

Sam Found Dragonglass and Its Use

Sam found dragonglass and a horn at the Fist of the First Men in Game of Thrones Season 2. He kept that stash with him before the White Walkers attacked the men of the Night’s Watch. On his way back to the Wall he rescued Gilly and her son from Craster’s Keep and killed a White Walker with dragonglass. He was the first one to discover that White Walkers can be killed with dragonglass. Later on, in the Citadel, he found that tons of dragonglass is sitting at Dragonstone, the power seat of the House Targaryen.

Defeat The Night King

Sam Tarly Finds Dragonglass and A Horn at The Fist of The First Men

Sam Found The Horn That Can Be Dragonbinder

According to Sam, the horn he found at The Fist of The First Men is the one that can be used to tear down the wall but in the books, there is another horn known as the dragonbinder. Euron Greyjoy has this horn at Kingsmoot and he tells the Iron Born that dragonbinder can be used to control dragons.

“That horn you heard I found amongst the smoking ruins that were Valyria, where no man has dared to walk but me. You heard its call, and felt its power. It is a dragon horn, bound with bands of red gold and Valyrian steel graven with enchantments. The dragonlords of old sounded such horns before the Doom devoured them. With this horn, ironmen, I can bind dragons to my will.”Euron Greyjoy at Kingsmoot

The Night King now has an undead dragon, Viserion, which has given him his own weapon of mass destruction. So this may be something that Sam will discover later on to use on Viserion and maybe this is not the horn that Sam thinks it is.

Sam Took Books And Scrolls From Citadel That Can Have Information On Defeating The Night King

The Night King

Sam and Gilly in Eastwatch

In a rant in the episode Eastwatch, Sam tells Gilly that the information to defeat the Night King is sitting and rotting somewhere on the shelves of the Citadel so he decides to take the matters into his own hands. Sam Tarly leaves the Citadel with a stash of scrolls and books which can help him in learning ways to ultimately defeat the Night King. He is capable of finding that information as he has found important information before by using his skills and his love for reading such as dragonglass sitting at Dragonstone and a cure to Jorah’s greyscale.

Also, Sam has the sword ‘Heartsbane‘ in his possession which is Valyrian steel. I am pretty sure that Heartbane will play a role in the Great War as well.

We have high hopes from Samwell Tarly. I am pretty sure that he will find a way to defeat the Night King.

Anatomy of The Frozen Lake Battle- Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 6 featured ‘The Frozen Lake Battle’ where a group of twelve people go for a hunt of a dead wight far north beyond the wall.

The crew discusses the making of this amazing sequence.

The Frozen Lake Battle

Says D. B. Weiss, “It was a real back and forth about who would be on this mission, who wouldn’t be on this missionThe Dirty Dozen obviously came to mind. Everybody has a good reason to hate everybody else.” We see Jon Snow, Tormund Giantsbane, Jorah Mormont, Gendry, Thoros of Myr, Beric Dondarrion, The Hound and five other wildings go on this suicide mission to rescue a dead wight to show to Cersei that the threat is real.

The Frozen Lake Battle

Suicide Squad

Some of the sequence was shot in Iceland. The crew worked in cold conditions as hell. Most of the heavy-lifting of the sequence, was in Wolf Hill Quarry in Belfast. The crew had a very hard time trying to work out what a frozen lake looks like, and how they can achieve that. And that went from compacted quarry floor to putting concrete down, to nice, flat finish, and then there had to be hues of color that were added to that. Then they had to work out how the ice would look, trying to make that look three-dimensional, and as if it was transparent ice. They worked hard to make the frozen lake look real.

Says Kit Harrington, “I think there’s a sort of kick-bollocks scrambleness to filming out here where you, you have such limited daylight. And you have conditions which are like this or worse. It just gives it a sense of reality, you know.”

The Frozen Lake Battle

Kit Harrington in Beyond The Wall

Remarks Emilia Clarke, “You know, the harder the challenge, the more I relish it. But this really, you’re like, “Can I just even maybe have, like, a screen with, like, clouds or something?” I’ve never flown on a dragon! And to just harness that power. I mean, can you even imagine?

In this sequence we got to see a wight polar bear, a dragon dying, hundreds and thousands of wights fighting with the Suicide Squad. I would say that the crew did an amazing job in filming this sequence.

What Can Be The Top Moments of Beyond The Wall?

In the photos, we see the Suicide Squad, Jon Snow, Gendry, Beric Dondarrion, Thoros of Myr, The Hound, Jorah Mormont, Tormund, and a few wildings taking off on their excursion beyond the wall to capture a wight.

This was a brilliant idea of Tyrion Lannister to show to Cersei that the army of the dead exists and to get an armistice with Cersei. I would say it’s quite stupid and may be Tyrion’s biggest blunder. We see some bromance in the pictures between Tormund and Hound. What are they talking about? Maybe Brienne.

Beyond The Wall

Tormund and Hound Bromance

We also see Daenerys worried and talking to Tyrion in the pictures and in the preview. There is a huge possibility that Daenerys would have to fly her dragons beyond the wall to save the suicide squad. We may also see some Jon and Daenerys moments. Okay, so the wait is almost over. Join me live and until then check out Beyond The Wall preview.

What is Known About Ice Dragons

There has been a lot of speculation about seeing an ice dragon in the show Game of Thrones. Let’s see what we know about Ice Dragons from the books, ‘A Song of Ice and Fire‘.

What Do We Know About Ice Dragons?

There is some mention of ice dragons in the books of George RR Martin ‘A Song of Ice and Fire‘. But ice dragons were first talked about by GRRM in a children’s story book called The Ice Dragon in 1980. They are said to have blue eyes, like White Walkers, and translucent wings. Ice Dragons are said to roam the Shivering Sea and the White Waste. These gorgeous yet terrifying beasts breathe cold, as opposed to fire. According to GRRM, they can even “freeze a man solid in half a heartbeat.”

Mentions in The Novels

A Clash of Kings

In the second novel, A Clash Of Kings, in the ‘A Song Of Ice And Fire’ series, GRRM refers to Ice Dragon constellation.

The Storm of Swords

A Dance With Dragons

The Difference Between Ice Dragons and Valyrian Dragons

In the encyclopedia, A World of Ice and Fire, ice dragons are a different species than Valyrian dragons. Ice dragons are much larger than Valyrian dragons. So what will happen if The Night King gets one of Daenerys’s dragons and revives it? Will it breathe ice like the ice dragons described by GRRM or will they breathe fire? That will be an interesting thing to watch although it will be very sad to see one of Dany’s dragons dying. A wight dragon might also give the Night King the magic he needs to tear down the Wall.

Tyrion Lannister Just Made An Epic Blunder In Game of Thrones Season 7

Tyrion Lannister has made many mistakes since the Game of Thrones Season 7 started. He has ill advised Daenerys on many fronts. His advice can cost Daenerys the claim to the Iron Throne, her dragons, and maybe her life, and can start the Great War between the living and the dead. Let’s take a look at all the damage he has done so far.

Bad Counsel by Tyrion Lannister in Stormborn

In the episode Stormborn, Tyrion strongly advises Daenerys to not attack King’s Landing.

Tyrion Lannister

Tyrion Lannister Advising Daenerys Against Attacking Red Keep

In his opinion, conquering Westeros would be easy for Daenerys. But he doesn’t want her to be the queen of ashes. He thinks that with the Tyrells and the Dornish on their side they can win the Iron Throne without turning King’s Landing into a slaughterhouse. But Yara Greyjoy, Ellaria Sand, and Olenna Tyrell do not like Tyrion’s suggestions. Olenna doesn’t think that being nice to people and being loved is gonna help Daenerys claim the Iron Throne in Westeros. Olenna advises her to be a dragon and to not be a sheep. Yara and Ellaria want to attack King’s Landing but against everyone’s wishes, Daenerys decides to go with the advice provided by Tyrion Lannister.

Tyrion suggests that the army that attacks the Red Keep should be Westerosi. He argues that Cersei will try to rally the lords of Westeros by appealing to their loyalty, their love for their country. If they besiege the city with the Unsullied and Dothraki, who are foreigners in Westeros, we will prove her point. He suggests that Yara Greyjoy’s fleet should ferry the Dornish army to the Red Keep and the Dornish and the Tyrell army should lay a siege on King’s Landing which would lead to Cersei bending the knee ultimately.

Well, nothing goes the way Tyrion thought in his head. When the Greyjoy fleet is going to Sunspear to get the Dornish army, they are attacked by Euron Greyjoy’s armada. Euron captures Ellaria Sand and Yara Greyjoy and takes them to the King’s Landing. Not only that, Euron destroys almost all of the Greyjoy fleet. His advice cost Daenerys losing the house of Dorne and the Greyjoy fleet.

The Unsullied Take Casterly Rock

Another master plan of Tyrion Lannister was for The Unsullied to take over Casterly Rock, which is the power seat of the House Lannister. According to him, Cersei will be ready for The Unsullied but he knows a secret passage to the castle of Casterly Rock through the sewers which only he knows. If The Unsullied entered through that secret passage they can get into the castle and fight the Lannister army. According to Tyrion, The Unsullied taking over the Casterly Rock was a sure shot win for Daenerys but again, Cersei and Jaime Lannister were two steps ahead of Tyrion.

Jaime and Cersei, instead, abandon Casterly Rock before The Unsullied arrive, and take over The Highgarden, the power seat of the House Tyrell. Highgarden has fertile lands and that will guarantee food for the Lannisters for the long winter. Jaime also takes over the gold of the House Tyrell to pay off the debt owed to the Iron Bank. Lady Olenna is poisoned to death by Jaime. So, again because of the bad counsel of Tyrion Lannister, Daenerys loses another powerful ally in the South, House Tyrell.

Lady Olenna And Jaime Before Her Death

Most Epic Blunder By Tyrion Lannister

The most epic bad advice that perhaps Tyrion has given to Daenerys Targaryen is in Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 5 ‘Eastwatch’. In Eastwatch, Jon receives a raven from Brandon Stark about Army of The Dead marching towards Eastwatch by The Sea. Jon says that he needs to go back to Winterfell right away and prepare his bannerman for fighting the dead unless Daenerys wants to join them. Daenerys says that if she comes with Jon Cersei will take Westeros.

Tyrion then comes up with another genius thought. He says that Cersei will agree to a truce if we prove that Army of the Dead is real. He asks Jon if it’s possible to capture a wight from beyond the wall and bring it to King’s Landing. Tyrion thinks that they can get the support of the Lannister army to fight the Great War if they can manage to have proof. Jon thinks that can be done and leaves with Jorah Mormont, Gendry, and Ser Davos to go to the Eastwatch. At Eastwatch, Jon comes to know that Beric Dondarrion, Thoros of Myr, and The Hound have also come to Eastwatch to fight the dead. The Hound saw a vision in the flames of the Army of The Dead stationed at a mountain shaped like an arrowhead and he saw them marching towards Eastwatch.

What Can Be The Consequences of Tyrion Lannister’s Disastrous Advice

Jon Snow, Tormund, Jorah Mormont, Beric Dondarrion, Thoros of Myr, The Hound, and Gendry along with a few other wildlings are now out on a mission beyond the wall to capture a wight to bring back to the King’s Landing. Now, let us examine the consequences of this suicide mission suggested by Tyrion Lannister. The Night King has hundreds and thousands of dead marching with him. Do you think this party of seven to ten people have any chance of making back to the Eastwatch safely? What are the odds they have against hundreds and thousands of dead white walkers? Almost, nada in my opinion. This time they don’t even have ships to save them unlike at the Battle of Hardhome against these dead people and the Night King.

The risk is too great. There is a strong chance that Daenerys would have to go to the North to save this suicide squad. Her other two dragons won’t have any riders to guide them if she goes. According to the stills, from the second preview of Game of Thrones Season 7, it seems like Daenerys will end up going there as we see a lot of Dragon fire beyond the wall.

Tyrion Lannister

Still From The 2nd Preview of Game of Thrones Season 7

There is also some speculation by the fans that one of her dragons will die fighting the dead. The Night King will revive that dragon and he will have an ice dragon. Goosebumps!! That can finally give the Night King and the Army of the Dead a way to break the wall. Remember, dragons have magical powers. So there is a risk of the suicide squad dying along with Jon and Dany and the dragons. That’s a lot to risk just to prove to Cersei that the White Walkers exist. And we know the power hungry monster that Cersei is. I don’t think Cersei will agree to any armistice even after seeing the proof of the Army of the Dead. Rather, she can even think of using the Army of the Dead to wipe off her own enemies.

I think Tyrion has gone too far this time. Somewhere in the corner of his heart, he wants House Lannister to not be annihilated completely by Daenerys. He still feels that Jaime will come around, if not Cersei. But his foolish advice can just provide the Night King and the Army of the Dead an entry to Westeros. His counsel might just start the Great War between the living and the dead. Long Night is coming, folks!
