What Do We Know So Far About Game of Thrones Season 8?

Game of Thrones Season 8 Facts

Game of Thrones Season 8 is the most awaited penultimate final season of Game of Thrones. Here are all the Game of Thrones Season 8 facts.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Facts – What Do We Know So Far About Game of Thrones Season 8?

game of thrones season 8
Game of Thrones Season 8 premiere date will most likely be in late 2018 or in early 2019. Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont) just revealed the reason behind the delay in release date of the next season in his interview with Comic Con 2017.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Premiere Date

Game of Thrones Season 8 cast Game of Thrones Season 8 facts

Iain Glen revealed that production for Game of Thrones season 8 will use only one filming unit instead of two units. The past seasons have used two units with the exception of season 3 which used 3 units.

We’re all starting to occupy the same territory, we’re all starting to be in the same storylines and so they can’t [have two filming units] anymore,” he explained. “I think this last season will take much longer to shoot because they can only use one unit because we’re all in the same sort of scenes.”

So that explains the delay in Game of Thrones Season 8 release date.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Facts – Multiple Endings For Season 8 Finale, Extra Security To Avoid Leaks

game of thrones season 8
Casey Bloys, HBO Programming Director, spoke at Bethlehem revealing that HBO is gonna take strong measures to prevent the leaks. For this reason, Game of Thrones production will shoot multiple endings for season 8 finale. Apparently, even the Game of Thrones cast won’t know how Game of Thrones series will conclude. Game of Thrones Season 8

Speaking of security, recently Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) revealed that he has the Game of Thrones season 8 scripts but he can’t even read them. Why? Because of security concerns. “I got the scripts for the last season. Kind of. I got them all – I can’t open them because of all the security and I can’t walk them out. I went, ‘I’m not touching it I don’t care because it’s like pulling the pin out of a grenade.”

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episodes Will Be Monumental & Of Feature Length

Another fact about Game of Thrones Season 8 is that each episode of the last season of Game of Thrones will be of feature length. Liam Cunningham recently spoke about this with TV Guide

[The episodes are] definitely going to be bigger and what I hear is longer,” says Cunningham. “We’re filming right up until the summer. When you think about it, up until last season we’d have six months to do ten episodes, so we’re [doing] way more than that for six episodes. So that obviously will translate into longer episodes.”

That also explains the delay in Game of Thrones season 8 premiere date. I hope that the wait is worth it. Seems like it will be as John Bradley (Samwell Tarly) revealed in an interview that each episode of Game of Thrones Season 8 will be monumental. Says John Bradley, “I think what we used to call Episode 9 in ‘Game of Thrones’ folklore — the episode when everything comes to a head and you get a lot of spectacular sequences — I think you’re gonna get six ‘Episode 9s’ this year.”

Game of Thrones Season 8 Budget Is Gonna Be Huge – $15 Million Or More Per Episode

Long Night is Coming Game of Thrones Season 8 budget Game of Thrones Season 8 facts

The Night King on the Undead Viserion

Game of Thrones has announced the budget for Season 8. It is going to be $15 million or more per episode. Wow, that’s amazing. That means that perhaps the fans will get to see the direwolves, Ghost and Nymeria. Also, more epic battle scenes. In my opinion, we are going to see epic battle scenes at Winterfell and the King’s Landing. Remember, the Night King is headed towards Winterfell after the wall fell.

Another Game of Thrones Season 8 Facts – Casting Calls For Seven New Roles

Game of Thrones rolled out a nationwide casting call for seven new roles for GoT Season 8. They are looking for a Northern farmeraged 25 – 35; a sassy and attractive girlaged 18 – 25; a mercenary, aged 35-50; a Northern sentryaged 18 – 25; two guards; and a sailor, aged 35- 50.

Most of these roles are based on the people in the north, except the mercenary and the sailor. The mercenary will most likely be part of the Golden Company. The sailor would most likely assist Theon Greyjoy in his quest to rescue Yara Greyjoy.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Directors Confirmed

Game of Thrones has assembled an amazing crew of directors to film the last season. These directors have won Emmys for directing Game of Thrones episodes in the past. Add to that list the showrunners who have created this amazing show.

Miguel Sapochnik is returning to direct 3 episodes of Game of Thrones Season 8. He has directed the famous episodes of ‘Hardhome’, ‘Battle of Bastards’, and ‘The Winds of Winter’. David Nutter who directed ‘The Rains of Castamere (aka The Red Wedding)’, ‘The Dance of Dragons’, and ‘Mother’s Mercy’ will be directing two episodes. And the showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (“Walk of Punishment’, and ‘Two Swords’ will direct the penultimate Game of Thrones finale.

Game of Thrones Cast Met In Belfast On October 9 – Game of Thrones Season 8 Filming To Commence Soon

Maise Williams was spotted a few days ago on a flight to Belfast. Iain Glen and Liam Cunningham also revealed that they will be going to Belfast soon for a read through of Game of Thrones script. Well, seems like they were telling the truth.

Game of Thrones cast has been seen in Belfast. Maise Williams (Arya Stark) and Sophie Williams (Sansa Stark) were spotted on the streets of Belfast.

Every Episode of Game of Thrones Season 8 Will Be Monumental – Says John Bradley (Samwell Tarly)

Game of Thrones Season 8 episodes

John Bradley (Samwell Tarly) just raised the bar for Game of Thrones Season 8 episodes. He recently gave an interview to HuffPost. According to him season 8 is gonna be pretty epic.

What To Expect From Game of Thrones Season 8 Episodes?

We recently heard from Casey Bloys, HBO’s Programming Director, that the last season of Game of Thrones will have multiple endings to avoid the leaks. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau apparently doesn’t think that HBO would waste their money like that.

We also heard that the budget for season 8 episodes is gonna be about or more than $15 million. Season 8 filming is starting this month. Add that to the list of amazing directors that game of thrones season 8 episodes are going to have. Miguel Sapochnik who directed ‘Hardhome’, ‘Battle of Bastards’, and ‘The Winds of Winter’ is going to direct 3 episodes. David Nutter who directed ‘The Rains of Castamere’, ‘The Dance of Dragons’, and ‘Mother’s Mercy’ will be directing two episodes. And the showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (“Walk of Punishment’, and ‘Two Swords’ will direct the penultimate Game of Thrones finale.

game of thrones season 8 episodes

Samwell Tarly (John Bradley) has raised the expectations even further. Jon Bradley told HuffPost, “We assembled a team of directors this year who have been in charge of some of our big episodes in the past. Miguel and David have done some of the standout episodes of previous seasons. Clearly, every single episode of the six you’ve got left in Season 8 is gonna be monumental and needs somebody at the helm who’s done that kind of high-stakes, high-octane direction before for us.”

According to Bradley, the viewers should expect six Episode 9s next season. “I think what we used to call Episode 9 in ‘Game of Thrones’ folklore — the episode when everything comes to a head and you get a lot of spectacular sequences — I think you’re gonna get six ‘Episode 9s’ this year.”

About David Benioff and D. B. Weiss Directing The Series Finale?

game of thrones season 8 episodes
Bradley thinks that David Benioff and D. B. Weiss directing the Game of Thrones finale is a poetic decision. “They know everything about the show. They’ve been in charge of everything ― every key decision in all seven seasons so far has been made by David and Dan. I think they’ve done an incredible job with this series. They deserve everything they get, and they deserve the right to finish this show off in the way they see fit. I don’t think there’s anybody better qualified, so I can’t wait.

Well, each day is gonna be harder for fans to wait for the last season of Game of Thrones. John Bradley’s full interview can be found here

Some Predictions On What Can Happen In Game of Thrones Season 8

This post contains possible Game of Thrones Season 8 spoilers

Game of Thrones Season 7 finale ended with a bang. It hit several important moments and left us wondering what to expect in Game of Thrones Season 8. Here are some theories and spoilers on what can happen in Season 8.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Spoilers – Major Hints

Daenerys and Jon Will Have A Baby

Game of Thrones finale revealed some significant Game of Thrones Season 8 spoilers. We kept on hearing from Dany that she can’t have children in Game of Thrones Season 7. Mirri Maz Duur, the witch who killed Khal Drogo prophesied that Daenerys can’t have kids. But Game of Thrones has done this to us in the past. They build a narrative to make viewers believe that something cannot happen but then that thing actually happens and then everyone is like WHATTTTT!!

Game of Thrones Season 8 Spoilers

Jon Snow Daenerys Sex Scene

We saw Jon and Daenerys having sex in Game of Thrones finale and I am pretty sure their hot sex made a baby already.

Samwell Tarly Will Find Out The Way To End The Great War

Samwell Tarly has been the most intelligent man in the show so far. He found the Dragonglass and the horn at the Fist of The First Men. He killed a white walker with dragonglass. He found out that dragonglass is sitting at Dragonstone. He and Gilly found out that Jon Snow is Aegon Targaryen. He cured Jorah of greyscale.

Game of Thrones Season 8 spoilers

Samwell Tarly and Gilly at the Citadel

It is most likely that Samwell will help Brandon Stark, Jon Snow and Daenerys to defeat the Night King. Perhaps Sam will find out a way from his Citadel scrolls and books.

Jaime Lannister Will Kill Cersei

We saw Jaime Lannister heading to the north in the season 7 finale.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Spoilers

Jaime Lannister Leaving Kings Landing

We saw Cersei announcing her pregnancy to Jaime. According to Cersei’s prophecy by Maggy the Frog, Cersei will only have 3 children and they will all die. Well, Cersei’s 3 kids are already dead so there is a great chance that she will miscarry her fourth child with Jaime. But we know how wicked Cersei is. She may eventually use Jaime under the false pretense of still being pregnant after miscarrying the baby. Or Cersei may do something worse than that which may be the breaking point for Jaime. May be Jaime will fulfill Valonqar prophecy of Maggy the Frog, that Cersei will be strangled to death by someone known as “the Valonqar”. In Valyrian, it translates as “little brother” or “younger sibling”.

The Night King Will Destroy The Iron Throne

Game of Thrones Season 8 Spoilers

Daenerys Visits The Throne Room in the King’s Landing When She Visits House of the Undying

When Daenerys visited House of the Undying, she had a vision of the throne room in King’s Landing. The roof was all broken and snow was pouring in. We already saw snow hitting King’s Landing in Season 7 finale. This is perhaps an indication that the Night King and his army of the dead will reach King’s Landing and destroy the throne room and Iron Throne.

Daenerys Will Die in Game of Thrones Season 8 Finale

In Daenerys’s second vision upon visiting House of The Undying, she goes beyond the wall where she has already been now to save Jon and others in season 7 from the Night King. In the earlier vision, she doesn’t touch the Iron Throne but moves on to go beyond the wall. This may be an indication that she will never sit on the Iron Throne. Her purpose maybe just to save Westeros and end the long night by sacrificing herself.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Spoilers

Daenerys with Khal Drogo and Rhaego in the House of the Undying

In her final vision she visits a tent where she finds Khal Drogo and her son Rhaego who died in season 1. She says to the Khal that maybe she is already dead and she just doesn’t know yet. This maybe the destiny of Daenerys to die and ultimately unite with her dead husband and son. That will be tragic but may be that is the bitter sweet ending that D&D and GRRM refer to. Maybe Jon Snow is Azor Ahai and he may have to sacrifice Daenerys, his true love to take the Night King down for good.

Sansa Stark Will Die

Game of Thrones Season 8 Spoilers

Sansa Stark – Lady of Winterfell

Sansa Stark’s storyline has revolved around the villains in Game of Thrones including Joffrey Baratheon, Ramsay Bolton and Petry Baelish aka Littlefinger. They are all dead now. Sansa always wanted to be a lady and she is now the Lady of Winterfell in the absence of Jon Snow, the King in the North. Sansa may play a role in taking down Cersei for good as she understands Cersei and has learnt quite a bit from her. Other than that, I would say her storyline is pretty much done and she may die in Game of Thrones season 8.

Democratic Coalition in Westeros

Game of Thrones Season 8 Spoilers

Tyrion and Daenerys in Beyond The Wall

One of the major Game of Thrones Season 8 spoilers was revealed by Tyrion Lannister in Season 7. Tyrion talked about choosing a successor for Daenerys Targaryen in the episode Beyond The Wall. That maybe another crucial moment in Game of Thrones Season 8 where the people of Westeros may democratically choose their leader after the long night ends.

Samwell Tarly: Most Likely To Find A Way To Defeat The Night King

Samwell Tarly is an unsung hero of Game of Thrones. When he came to the Night’s Watch as a recruit everyone thought that he is no good. But his intellect has carried him on in Game of Thrones. Judging by what he has been able to do so far there is a huge possibility that he will find a way to defeat the Night King.

Why Samwell Tarly Could Be The Person To Find A Way to Defeat the Night King

Samwell Tarly was recently at Citadel. His main purpose of going there was to study and find a way to defeat The Night King and his army of the dead. Sam has a track record of discovering things through his knowledge and love for books.

Way To Defeat The Night King

Samwell Tarly Trying To Convince The Archmaester About The Threat From White Walkers Advancing Towards The Wall

Sam Found Dragonglass and Its Use

Sam found dragonglass and a horn at the Fist of the First Men in Game of Thrones Season 2. He kept that stash with him before the White Walkers attacked the men of the Night’s Watch. On his way back to the Wall he rescued Gilly and her son from Craster’s Keep and killed a White Walker with dragonglass. He was the first one to discover that White Walkers can be killed with dragonglass. Later on, in the Citadel, he found that tons of dragonglass is sitting at Dragonstone, the power seat of the House Targaryen.

Defeat The Night King

Sam Tarly Finds Dragonglass and A Horn at The Fist of The First Men

Sam Found The Horn That Can Be Dragonbinder

According to Sam, the horn he found at The Fist of The First Men is the one that can be used to tear down the wall but in the books, there is another horn known as the dragonbinder. Euron Greyjoy has this horn at Kingsmoot and he tells the Iron Born that dragonbinder can be used to control dragons.

“That horn you heard I found amongst the smoking ruins that were Valyria, where no man has dared to walk but me. You heard its call, and felt its power. It is a dragon horn, bound with bands of red gold and Valyrian steel graven with enchantments. The dragonlords of old sounded such horns before the Doom devoured them. With this horn, ironmen, I can bind dragons to my will.”Euron Greyjoy at Kingsmoot

The Night King now has an undead dragon, Viserion, which has given him his own weapon of mass destruction. So this may be something that Sam will discover later on to use on Viserion and maybe this is not the horn that Sam thinks it is.

Sam Took Books And Scrolls From Citadel That Can Have Information On Defeating The Night King

The Night King

Sam and Gilly in Eastwatch

In a rant in the episode Eastwatch, Sam tells Gilly that the information to defeat the Night King is sitting and rotting somewhere on the shelves of the Citadel so he decides to take the matters into his own hands. Sam Tarly leaves the Citadel with a stash of scrolls and books which can help him in learning ways to ultimately defeat the Night King. He is capable of finding that information as he has found important information before by using his skills and his love for reading such as dragonglass sitting at Dragonstone and a cure to Jorah’s greyscale.

Also, Sam has the sword ‘Heartsbane‘ in his possession which is Valyrian steel. I am pretty sure that Heartbane will play a role in the Great War as well.

We have high hopes from Samwell Tarly. I am pretty sure that he will find a way to defeat the Night King.

Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3 Top Moments

There were some key moments that can be called as Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3 top moments. I couldn’t take my eyes off from my TV for even a single second. It was simply fantastic.

Meeting of Ice & Fire – Jon Snow Meets Daenerys Stormborn – The Most Awaited Moment on Game of Thrones

According to David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the spine of the episode is about the first meeting of Ice and Fire – Jon Snow and Daenerys Stormborn.

Jon Snow doesn’t have much idea about what Daenerys has gone through. Jon refuses to bend his knee to the Mother of Dragons as he probably he sees a rich girl with a fancy name sitting in a big chair with a fancy dress on proclaiming herself as the queen of the world. He doesn’t have much respect for her perhaps at this moment. He didn’t come to Dragonstone to join her in her fight against Cersei. None of that matters for him at this point. All that matters is fighting the dead.

According to Weiss, she looks at him and she thinks that he is some unwashed barbarian from the north, and he is a bastard and yet he’s calling himself king. If she perhaps knew what he’d seen she’d be looking very very differently at what he’s telling her. But at this point in time, she only sees Jon as someone who’s trying to carve up her piece of her kingdom for himself. And Dany is thinking that if what this guy is saying is true, then it really is an issue.  But Dany has her own very serious issues to deal with in the shape of the woman who’s now sitting on the throne. Cersei is a murderous vicious woman, capable of insane amounts of brutality without a second thought if she feels like it’s what needs to be done.

After Tyrion’s advice, Dany agrees to have Jon mine the dragonglass. That is the first step from her side to make Jon an ally and to show good faith.

The Battle of Casterly Rock – One of Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3 Top Moments

According to David Benioff and Weiss, everyone realizes the two pulls of power for Cersei and Jaime at this point are Kings Landing and Casterly Rock. But Jaime also knows that he doesn’t have the forces to defend both. So he makes the strategic decision to give up Casterly Rock, to use it as a decoy, to lure the Unsullied over there to take it and to get them on the exact wrong side of the continent. The siege of Casterly Rock is so much about what doesn’t happen, how it goes contrary to expectations, so in order for us to understand that it doesn’t play out the way Tyrion expects it to, you really need to hear Tyrion’s expectations.

Jaime goes after the Highgarden, which is for him much more valuable because of Highgarden’s Tyrell’s stronghold, which commands almost all the fertile regions of Westeros. They are the wealthiest house but fighting isn’t really their forte.

Death Scene of Olenna Tyrell – One of Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3 Top Moments

Jaime thinks that he finally got to turn the tables on someone. But Olena still wins the scene. The one thing that she does have left to live for is the thing she saves for the very end of the scene. The piece of information that she’s been sitting on since season four. She beats him in the middle of her own death scene, and there’s nothing he can do about it. He knows that its true the moment she says it, “Tell Cersei I wanted to her to know that it was me”. She admits to Jaime that he killed his and Cersei’s son, King Joffrey, on his wedding day with Margaery Tyrell.

Brandon Stark Comes Back to Winterfell And Unites With Sansa Stark

Brandon Stark is finally at his home in Winterfell. But at this point, he is more worried about fighting the Night King. He wants to tell Jon Snow about the truth behind him being half Targaryen and half Stark. This is really important because it’s highly likely that Jon Snow will be riding one of the dragons, possibly Rhaegal in season 8 in the battle against the army of the dead.

Jorah Mormont’s Greyscale Gets Cured – Another One of The Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3 Top Moments

Jorah’s greyscale is cured at the moment by Samwell Tarly and he is off to fight alongside Daenerys. This is a defining moment as Samwell Tarly has discovered a way to provide treatment for greyscale to patients who are not young and whose disease is advanced. Archmaester Marwyn is pleased with Sam and has tasked Sam with organizing manuscripts which will ultimately become the book called ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’.
