Tyrion Lannister of GOT Played In A Punk Band Called ‘Whizzy’

Peter Dinklage is a talented man. He has done an amazing job as Tyrion Lannister, sometimes also called the Imp or Dwarf of Casterly Rock in Game of Thrones. Dinklage has had other gigs as an actor but wait a minute. He used to front a punk-funk-rap band in 1990s. Yes, our Tyrion Lannister of GOT played in a punk band called ‘Whizzy’ in New York City in 1990s.

But it wasn’t all fun for Dinklage. He had some rough moments. He got some scars while performing for Whizzy in 1994.

Said Peter Dinklage in an interview, “We played a show at CBGB, and I was jumping around onstage and got accidentally kneed in the temple. I was like Sid Vicious, just bleeding all over the stage. Blood was going everywhere. I just grabbed a dirty bar napkin and dabbed my head and went on with the show.”

Seems like they were quite reckless about their safety. In Peter Dinklage’s own words, “We didn’t care much at the time about personal safety. We were smoking and drinking during our shows, and one time my bass player fell off the back of his amp because he passed out. It was one of those bands.

That seemed like a lot of fun. I didn’t find any footage of whizzy on YouTube but this video gives us some idea about how Dinklage would have sounded like when he used to perform for Whizzy.

Anatomy of The Frozen Lake Battle- Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 6 featured ‘The Frozen Lake Battle’ where a group of twelve people go for a hunt of a dead wight far north beyond the wall.

The crew discusses the making of this amazing sequence.

The Frozen Lake Battle

Says D. B. Weiss, “It was a real back and forth about who would be on this mission, who wouldn’t be on this missionThe Dirty Dozen obviously came to mind. Everybody has a good reason to hate everybody else.” We see Jon Snow, Tormund Giantsbane, Jorah Mormont, Gendry, Thoros of Myr, Beric Dondarrion, The Hound and five other wildings go on this suicide mission to rescue a dead wight to show to Cersei that the threat is real.

The Frozen Lake Battle

Suicide Squad

Some of the sequence was shot in Iceland. The crew worked in cold conditions as hell. Most of the heavy-lifting of the sequence, was in Wolf Hill Quarry in Belfast. The crew had a very hard time trying to work out what a frozen lake looks like, and how they can achieve that. And that went from compacted quarry floor to putting concrete down, to nice, flat finish, and then there had to be hues of color that were added to that. Then they had to work out how the ice would look, trying to make that look three-dimensional, and as if it was transparent ice. They worked hard to make the frozen lake look real.

Says Kit Harrington, “I think there’s a sort of kick-bollocks scrambleness to filming out here where you, you have such limited daylight. And you have conditions which are like this or worse. It just gives it a sense of reality, you know.”

The Frozen Lake Battle

Kit Harrington in Beyond The Wall

Remarks Emilia Clarke, “You know, the harder the challenge, the more I relish it. But this really, you’re like, “Can I just even maybe have, like, a screen with, like, clouds or something?” I’ve never flown on a dragon! And to just harness that power. I mean, can you even imagine?

In this sequence we got to see a wight polar bear, a dragon dying, hundreds and thousands of wights fighting with the Suicide Squad. I would say that the crew did an amazing job in filming this sequence.

Tyrion Lannister Just Made An Epic Blunder In Game of Thrones Season 7

Tyrion Lannister has made many mistakes since the Game of Thrones Season 7 started. He has ill advised Daenerys on many fronts. His advice can cost Daenerys the claim to the Iron Throne, her dragons, and maybe her life, and can start the Great War between the living and the dead. Let’s take a look at all the damage he has done so far.

Bad Counsel by Tyrion Lannister in Stormborn

In the episode Stormborn, Tyrion strongly advises Daenerys to not attack King’s Landing.

Tyrion Lannister

Tyrion Lannister Advising Daenerys Against Attacking Red Keep

In his opinion, conquering Westeros would be easy for Daenerys. But he doesn’t want her to be the queen of ashes. He thinks that with the Tyrells and the Dornish on their side they can win the Iron Throne without turning King’s Landing into a slaughterhouse. But Yara Greyjoy, Ellaria Sand, and Olenna Tyrell do not like Tyrion’s suggestions. Olenna doesn’t think that being nice to people and being loved is gonna help Daenerys claim the Iron Throne in Westeros. Olenna advises her to be a dragon and to not be a sheep. Yara and Ellaria want to attack King’s Landing but against everyone’s wishes, Daenerys decides to go with the advice provided by Tyrion Lannister.

Tyrion suggests that the army that attacks the Red Keep should be Westerosi. He argues that Cersei will try to rally the lords of Westeros by appealing to their loyalty, their love for their country. If they besiege the city with the Unsullied and Dothraki, who are foreigners in Westeros, we will prove her point. He suggests that Yara Greyjoy’s fleet should ferry the Dornish army to the Red Keep and the Dornish and the Tyrell army should lay a siege on King’s Landing which would lead to Cersei bending the knee ultimately.

Well, nothing goes the way Tyrion thought in his head. When the Greyjoy fleet is going to Sunspear to get the Dornish army, they are attacked by Euron Greyjoy’s armada. Euron captures Ellaria Sand and Yara Greyjoy and takes them to the King’s Landing. Not only that, Euron destroys almost all of the Greyjoy fleet. His advice cost Daenerys losing the house of Dorne and the Greyjoy fleet.

The Unsullied Take Casterly Rock

Another master plan of Tyrion Lannister was for The Unsullied to take over Casterly Rock, which is the power seat of the House Lannister. According to him, Cersei will be ready for The Unsullied but he knows a secret passage to the castle of Casterly Rock through the sewers which only he knows. If The Unsullied entered through that secret passage they can get into the castle and fight the Lannister army. According to Tyrion, The Unsullied taking over the Casterly Rock was a sure shot win for Daenerys but again, Cersei and Jaime Lannister were two steps ahead of Tyrion.

Jaime and Cersei, instead, abandon Casterly Rock before The Unsullied arrive, and take over The Highgarden, the power seat of the House Tyrell. Highgarden has fertile lands and that will guarantee food for the Lannisters for the long winter. Jaime also takes over the gold of the House Tyrell to pay off the debt owed to the Iron Bank. Lady Olenna is poisoned to death by Jaime. So, again because of the bad counsel of Tyrion Lannister, Daenerys loses another powerful ally in the South, House Tyrell.

Most Epic Blunder By Tyrion Lannister

The most epic bad advice that perhaps Tyrion has given to Daenerys Targaryen is in Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 5 ‘Eastwatch’. In Eastwatch, Jon receives a raven from Brandon Stark about Army of The Dead marching towards Eastwatch by The Sea. Jon says that he needs to go back to Winterfell right away and prepare his bannerman for fighting the dead unless Daenerys wants to join them. Daenerys says that if she comes with Jon Cersei will take Westeros.

Tyrion then comes up with another genius thought. He says that Cersei will agree to a truce if we prove that Army of the Dead is real. He asks Jon if it’s possible to capture a wight from beyond the wall and bring it to King’s Landing. Tyrion thinks that they can get the support of the Lannister army to fight the Great War if they can manage to have proof. Jon thinks that can be done and leaves with Jorah Mormont, Gendry, and Ser Davos to go to the Eastwatch. At Eastwatch, Jon comes to know that Beric Dondarrion, Thoros of Myr, and The Hound have also come to Eastwatch to fight the dead. The Hound saw a vision in the flames of the Army of The Dead stationed at a mountain shaped like an arrowhead and he saw them marching towards Eastwatch.

Suicide Squad – Jon Snow, Jorah Mormont, Gendry, Tormund, Beric Dondarrion, Thoros of Myr, and The Hound

What Can Be The Consequences of Tyrion Lannister’s Disastrous Advice

Jon Snow, Tormund, Jorah Mormont, Beric Dondarrion, Thoros of Myr, The Hound, and Gendry along with a few other wildlings are now out on a mission beyond the wall to capture a wight to bring back to the King’s Landing. Now, let us examine the consequences of this suicide mission suggested by Tyrion Lannister. The Night King has hundreds and thousands of dead marching with him. Do you think this party of seven to ten people have any chance of making back to the Eastwatch safely? What are the odds they have against hundreds and thousands of dead white walkers? Almost, nada in my opinion. This time they don’t even have ships to save them unlike at the Battle of Hardhome against these dead people and the Night King.

The risk is too great. There is a strong chance that Daenerys would have to go to the North to save this suicide squad. Her other two dragons won’t have any riders to guide them if she goes. According to the stills, from the second preview of Game of Thrones Season 7, it seems like Daenerys will end up going there as we see a lot of Dragon fire beyond the wall.

Tyrion Lannister

Still From The 2nd Preview of Game of Thrones Season 7

There is also some speculation by the fans that one of her dragons will die fighting the dead. The Night King will revive that dragon and he will have an ice dragon. Goosebumps!! That can finally give the Night King and the Army of the Dead a way to break the wall. Remember, dragons have magical powers. So there is a risk of the suicide squad dying along with Jon and Dany and the dragons. That’s a lot to risk just to prove to Cersei that the White Walkers exist. And we know the power hungry monster that Cersei is. I don’t think Cersei will agree to any armistice even after seeing the proof of the Army of the Dead. Rather, she can even think of using the Army of the Dead to wipe off her own enemies.

I think Tyrion has gone too far this time. Somewhere in the corner of his heart, he wants House Lannister to not be annihilated completely by Daenerys. He still feels that Jaime will come around, if not Cersei. But his foolish advice can just provide the Night King and the Army of the Dead an entry to Westeros. His counsel might just start the Great War between the living and the dead. Long Night is coming, folks!

Why is Eastwatch by the Sea Important?

Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 5 is named ‘Eastwatch’. Viewers and fans are wondering why is Eastwatch by the Sea important?

Eastwatch by the Sea – Relevance and History

Eastwatch by the Sea

Eastwatch by the Sea in the map of Westeros

Nights Watch mans Eastwatch by the Sea castle. It is located at the far eastern end of the wall. It also serves as a port, just like the Kings Landing, White Harbor, and Gulltown, on the eastern coast of the continent of Westeros. It is also the point where the Great Wall drops into an inlet of the Shivering Sea called the Bay of Seals. Right now, it is manned by Cottor Pyke, and also includes Borcas, head Stewart of Eastwatch, and Dareon, a newly made Stewart of Eastwatch as its residents. In short, Eastwatch by the Sea is the point where the wall meets the sea. Eastwatch is the closest castle to Hardhome, the Wildling village where Jon encountered the White Walker army in Game of Thrones Season 5 Episode 8.

Mentions of Eastwatch by the Sea in Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones Season 1

Jeor Mormont tells Jon Snow that four wights in the snow were found by Cottor Pyke’s men near Eastwatch. Unlike the men at Castle Black, they had the sense to burn them. Dareon is assigned to the Stewards and is sent by Maester Aemon to Eastwatch.

Game of Thrones Season 2

Tyrion Lannister dumps Janos Slynt onto a boat headed for Eastwatch by the Sea.

Game of Thrones Season 3

When Jon Snow infiltrates the wildlings, he is asked by Orell that which of the nineteen castles along the Wall are still being manned by the Nights Watch. Jon replies that only Castle Black, Eastwatch by the Sea, and the Shadow Tower are still being manned.

Game of Thrones Season 5

Stannis Baratheon advises the recently elected Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, Jon Snow to appoint Alliser Thorne as commander of Eastwatch, during his stay at Castle Black. Jon, instead, appoints Alliser Thorne as the First Ranger in recognition of his service.

Game of Thrones Season 7

Dragonstone

Jon Snow, in the episode Dragonstone, asks that the Wildling army, now led by Tormund Giantsbane, head to Eastwatch by the Sea to stand as the first line of defense against the oncoming White Walkers.  The Hound also sees a terrifying vision while staring into a fire alongside Beric Dondarrion: “The Wall… It’s where the wall meets the sea. There’s a castle there. There’s a mountain, looks like an arrowhead. The dead are marching past, thousands of them.”

Eastwatch

That brings us to the upcoming episode of Game of Thrones Season 7. Eastwatch by the Sea is going to play a pivotal role in the fight between the army of the dead and the living. That will be the first face off between the Wildlings being led by Tormund Giantsbane and the army of the dead. Tormund is definitely going to need a lot of help soon. I just hope that Daenerys agrees soon to help Jon Snow with her dragons and Dothraki army.

Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3 Top Moments

There were some key moments that can be called as Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3 top moments. I couldn’t take my eyes off from my TV for even a single second. It was simply fantastic.

Meeting of Ice & Fire – Jon Snow Meets Daenerys Stormborn – The Most Awaited Moment on Game of Thrones

According to David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the spine of the episode is about the first meeting of Ice and Fire – Jon Snow and Daenerys Stormborn.

Jon Snow doesn’t have much idea about what Daenerys has gone through. Jon refuses to bend his knee to the Mother of Dragons as he probably he sees a rich girl with a fancy name sitting in a big chair with a fancy dress on proclaiming herself as the queen of the world. He doesn’t have much respect for her perhaps at this moment. He didn’t come to Dragonstone to join her in her fight against Cersei. None of that matters for him at this point. All that matters is fighting the dead.

According to Weiss, she looks at him and she thinks that he is some unwashed barbarian from the north, and he is a bastard and yet he’s calling himself king. If she perhaps knew what he’d seen she’d be looking very very differently at what he’s telling her. But at this point in time, she only sees Jon as someone who’s trying to carve up her piece of her kingdom for himself. And Dany is thinking that if what this guy is saying is true, then it really is an issue.  But Dany has her own very serious issues to deal with in the shape of the woman who’s now sitting on the throne. Cersei is a murderous vicious woman, capable of insane amounts of brutality without a second thought if she feels like it’s what needs to be done.

After Tyrion’s advice, Dany agrees to have Jon mine the dragonglass. That is the first step from her side to make Jon an ally and to show good faith.

The Battle of Casterly Rock – One of Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3 Top Moments

According to David Benioff and Weiss, everyone realizes the two pulls of power for Cersei and Jaime at this point are Kings Landing and Casterly Rock. But Jaime also knows that he doesn’t have the forces to defend both. So he makes the strategic decision to give up Casterly Rock, to use it as a decoy, to lure the Unsullied over there to take it and to get them on the exact wrong side of the continent. The siege of Casterly Rock is so much about what doesn’t happen, how it goes contrary to expectations, so in order for us to understand that it doesn’t play out the way Tyrion expects it to, you really need to hear Tyrion’s expectations.

Jaime goes after the Highgarden, which is for him much more valuable because of Highgarden’s Tyrell’s stronghold, which commands almost all the fertile regions of Westeros. They are the wealthiest house but fighting isn’t really their forte.

Death Scene of Olenna Tyrell – One of Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3 Top Moments

Jaime thinks that he finally got to turn the tables on someone. But Olena still wins the scene. The one thing that she does have left to live for is the thing she saves for the very end of the scene. The piece of information that she’s been sitting on since season four. She beats him in the middle of her own death scene, and there’s nothing he can do about it. He knows that its true the moment she says it, “Tell Cersei I wanted to her to know that it was me”. She admits to Jaime that he killed his and Cersei’s son, King Joffrey, on his wedding day with Margaery Tyrell.

Brandon Stark Comes Back to Winterfell And Unites With Sansa Stark

Brandon Stark is finally at his home in Winterfell. But at this point, he is more worried about fighting the Night King. He wants to tell Jon Snow about the truth behind him being half Targaryen and half Stark. This is really important because it’s highly likely that Jon Snow will be riding one of the dragons, possibly Rhaegal in season 8 in the battle against the army of the dead.

Jorah Mormont’s Greyscale Gets Cured – Another One of The Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3 Top Moments

Jorah’s greyscale is cured at the moment by Samwell Tarly and he is off to fight alongside Daenerys. This is a defining moment as Samwell Tarly has discovered a way to provide treatment for greyscale to patients who are not young and whose disease is advanced. Archmaester Marwyn is pleased with Sam and has tasked Sam with organizing manuscripts which will ultimately become the book called ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’.

For more updates, stay tuned. Excited what’s coming next? Watch the preview of Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 4 here. It airs on August 6 at 9 pm EST.
