Oh my Goddddd! So finally we got to see Game of Thrones again last night. Wasn’t Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 1 just amazing? So much happened in that episode. Let’s break it down.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 1 Breakdown

First off, different casting credits and it starts with the wall shown broken by Viserion. And floor becoming icy. Wasn’t that cool?

The Last Hearth

Then they showed The Last Hearth in the opening credits which we will talk about more in the analysis below. This is going to be a major thing and why they showed it. More on this later.

Queen Daenerys & Jon Snow in Winterfell

We see Queen Dany and Jon Snow on their horses marching on the streets of Winterfell.

Arya gives way to another boy who was just as curious to see the Queen’s procession as was Arya in Season 1 when Robert Baratheon arrives in Winterfell to ask Ned Stark to become Hand of the King after Jon Arryn’s death.

There are many parallels going around here between Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 1 and Game of Thrones Season 1 Episode 1.

Jon Gets to Finally Bran After 8+ Years

The moment Jon Snow sees Bran he hops down from his horse and runs towards Bran and hugs him and kisses him on the forehead.

He says, “Look at you. You are now a man”. Bran replies, “Almost”. And then there is an awkward moment between Jon and Bran.

Sansa Meets Daenerys

Daenerys and Sansa finally meet each other and Daenerys thanks Sansa for extending the hospitality to her, Dothraki, the Unsullied and her dragons. Sansa looks at her disapprovingly and says, “Winterfell is yours, Your Grace”.

These are the same words that Ned Stark says to Robert Baratheon when he arrives at Winterfell in Season 1.

Jon and Arya Reunion

Finally, we see Jon and Arya meeting each other after so long in Godswood. They hug each other and show their swords to each other. Arya defends Sansa’s cold attitude towards Daenerys saying that she is just protecting the family and Jon should always remember that he is family too.

Sansa And Tyrion Lannister Reunion

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 1 was the episode of reunions. Tyrion Lannister finally meets his ex wife, Sansa Stark, after she fled from Winterfell following Joffrey’s death.

Sansa tells Tyrion that he is foolish to believe that Cersei would send her armies to join the forces in the North to fight the Night King.

Hound And Arya Reunion & Arya Gendry Reunion

Hound also gets to meet Arya again finally. The Hound is not happy with his weapon that Gendry has made for him and Arya tells the Hound to leave Gendry alone.

Arya and Gendry are happy to see each other and Arya requests for a new weapon with one end having dragonglass and another end seems like a spear.

Cersei and Euron Greyjoy

Cersei gets her army via the Golden Company. 20,000 men and 2000 horses but she also wanted elephants, strange?

Is Cersei really pregnant?

Cersei makes out with Euron reluctantly as Euron’s reward for bringing in the army but she is seen drinking wine which makes me wonder if she is really pregnant?

Cersei Gives Bronn A Contract to Kill

Cersei, through Qyburn, asks Bronn to kill her two brothers with the same crossbow that Tyrion used to kill Tywin Lannister.

Jon Snow Rode A Dragon

And oh my! That happened. Jon Snow rode Rhaegal (considering his father is Rhaegar). Coincidence?

Daenerys and Samwell Tarly

Daenerys personally thanks Samwell Tarly for curing Ser Jorah when no one else wanted to in the Citadel. Upon further conversation, Dany realizes that she actually executed Sam’s brother and father after the loot train battle. Sam is so shaken to hear this that he runs out of the room. Bran tells Sam that its time to tell Jon about who he really is.

Jon Comes to Know

Sam finally tells Jon that he is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. That he is Aegon Targaryen. Jon is shocked to hear this.

The Last Hearth Again

Tormund, Beric & a few others reach The Last Hearth which is the castle of Lord Umber. They find him murdered and hung on the wall with the White Walkers signature drawing of body parts cut along Lord Umber.

Tormund and others decide to immediately ride to Winterfell as now they have access to horses which Ed and others had brought from Castle Black. That means the Night King is about to reach Winterfell with his Army of the Dead.

The Final Reunion

In the last few minutes of the episode, we see Jaime Lannister reaching Winterfell and guess who is waiting at the door for him? Yes, Bran Stark. Jaime meets Bran’s eyes and is completely shocked to see Bran.

And now we wait for the next Game of Thrones Episode.
