Game of Thrones Season 8 premiere date will most likely be in late 2018 or in early 2019. Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont) just revealed the reason behind the delay in release date of the next season in his interview with Comic Con 2017.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Premiere Date

Iain Glen revealed that production for Game of Thrones season 8 will use only one filming unit instead of two units. The past seasons have used two units with the exception of season 3 which used 3 units.

We’re all starting to occupy the same territory, we’re all starting to be in the same storylines and so they can’t [have two filming units] anymore,” he explained. “I think this last season will take much longer to shoot because they can only use one unit because we’re all in the same sort of scenes.”

So that explains the delay in Game of Thrones Season 8 release date.

Speaking of security, recently Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) revealed that he has the Game of Thrones season 8 scripts but he can’t even read them. Why? Because of security concerns. “I got the scripts for the last season. Kind of. I got them all – I can’t open them because of all the security and I can’t walk them out. I went, ‘I’m not touching it I don’t care because it’s like pulling the pin out of a grenade.”

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episodes Will Be Monumental & Of Feature Length

Another fact about Game of Thrones Season 8 is that each episode of the last season of Game of Thrones will be of feature length. Liam Cunningham recently spoke about this with TV Guide

[The episodes are] definitely going to be bigger and what I hear is longer,” says Cunningham. “We’re filming right up until the summer. When you think about it, up until last season we’d have six months to do ten episodes, so we’re [doing] way more than that for six episodes. So that obviously will translate into longer episodes.”

That also explains the delay in Game of Thrones season 8 premiere date. I hope that the wait is worth it. Seems like it will be as John Bradley (Samwell Tarly) revealed in an interview that each episode of Game of Thrones Season 8 will be monumental. Says John Bradley, “I think what we used to call Episode 9 in ‘Game of Thrones’ folklore — the episode when everything comes to a head and you get a lot of spectacular sequences — I think you’re gonna get six ‘Episode 9s’ this year.”

The Night King on the Undead Viserion

Game of Thrones has announced the budget for Season 8. It is going to be $15 million or more per episode. Wow, that’s amazing. That means that perhaps the fans will get to see the direwolves, Ghost, and Nymeria. Also, more epic battle scenes. In my opinion, we are going to see epic battle scenes at Winterfell and the King’s Landing. Remember, the Night King is headed towards Winterfell after the wall fell.
